Estimated Daily Media Consumption Of African American Consumers

At Interep's 9th Annual “Power of Urban Radio Symposium”, ROI Media Solutions, with the support of Arbitron, the National Association of Black Owned Broadcasters (NABOB), and various urban radio companies, offered a convincing presentation as to why urban radio is the most effective way to reach African American consumers.

In Philadelphia, one of the markets highlighted during the symposium, “ads on urban radio proved to be most effective in that nearly 30% of listeners felt that the ads would move them to seek more information about a product, while 25% felt the ads were interesting and engaging.” Overall, 97.5% of the Philly urban audience 18 years or older is employed.

ROI also shared an estimated breakdown on the daily media consumption of African Americans nationally:

Urban Radio: 24%
Cable/Satellite TV: 23%
Broadcast TV: 22%
Internet: 14%
Other Radio: 6%
Newspaper: 6%
Magazines: 5%
