"Green For All" Bringing 250,000 "Green Collar Jobs" To Urban Communities

Green for All, a skills training program that intends to bring 250,000 “green collar jobs” to urban communities such as Baltimore, Detroit, and New Orleans, launched earlier today at the 3rd Annual Clinton Global Initiative.

Van Jones, co-founder of the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights in Oakland who spearheaded the idea, believes that African Americans need a seat at the table when it comes to the discussion about the “green economy.”

“I've had solar industry entrepreneurs tell me the only thing slowing their business down is the lack of qualified (employees).”

The initiative capitalizes on the “exploding” green economy as the city of Oakland has already spent $250,000 in job training and in August, Congress approved a bill allocating $125M annually to train 30,000 green-collar workers each year. Source
