Earlier today Nielsen released new findings on the shopping preferences and television viewing habits of African Americans including:

* Almost half of Black households, an estimated 46%, shop at beauty supply stores, almost triple the rate of non-African-American households. Automotive supply stores and electronic stores rank second and third as the most popular shopping channels

* Blacks make more shopping trips annually (175 versus 165), but spend less ($39 versus $44) in comparison to Whites

* During the 2006-2007 television season, seven shows placed in the top 10 primetime programs among both Blacks and Whites; in contrast, ten years ago viewers had only one top ten show in common
